There are many Legend events in Sleepy Hollow this season, come to one that will help put a new roof on the Old Church where it all happened!

Visitors have already started to arrive in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow, inspired by Tim Burton’s movie, FoxTV’s “Sleepy Hollow”, Disney’s “Ichabod and Mr Toad”, and countless other variations of Washington Irving’s famous story of a Dutch heiress, a practical joker, a Yankee school master, and a certain headless phantom on horseback. It’s a busy time in our Hudson Rivertowns, no less so for the Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground. This year also marks the 340th anniversary of the Old Dutch Church and everywhere you go along the Hudson you will find events and historical re-enactments preparing for the 250th Anniversary of the American Revolution. The Old Dutch has been here for a long time. I often say that our church sits at the crossroads of history and legend. The oldest church in New York in continuous use, (yes, we still worship at the Old Dutch); the resting place of over 70 soldiers of the American Revolution; and of course, the setting of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. All this to say, this historic church needs a new roof!
For three weekends in October, the church will host an encore presentation of a dramatic reading of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, with original score and sound effects, in the candle-lit church. All proceeds will go to the fund for the new roof. Tickets may be purchased here from the Friends of the Old Dutch Church. Kerin McCue, Jeremy Goldsmith, Glen Allen, and Janie Couch Allen have all teamed up to bring the words of Washington Irving to life in this magical, mystical season.
